Anthony Shadid

Biography

Anthony Shadid was a highly decorated foreign correspondent for the New York Times based in the Middle East.  He was a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the U.S. war in Iraq and authored the award-winning book Night Draws Near (Henry Holt, 2005), which examines the impact of the war on ordinary Iraqis from a variety of walks of life.  Shadid spoke with the Weave in March 2008 while visiting St. Lawrence University as part of the Contemporary Issues Forum. He died tragically in 2012 while working in Syria.
