Confluence/Confluencia is a bilingual collaboration between the environmental storytellers at Talking Rivers and the grassroots journalists at Weave News. The project invites humans around the world to submit statements (in English or Spanish) expressing their solidarity with waterways and sharing the voice of the ecosystems that sustain them. These statements can include anything from first-hand reports of advocacy and activist efforts to poetry to video testimonials. Through these formats, the human guardians share why they are standing up to protect the health and rights of the waterways they love. The statements then become part of global map of watersheds, devoid of nation-state borders. By celebrating the voices of the guardians of the water from around the world, this collaboration weaves a transnational, transregional community of resistance, creating a tapestry of grassroots journalism and the many voices of water.
Confluence/Confluencia es una colaboración bilingüe entre los narradores ambientales de Talking Rivers y los periodistas de base de Weave News. El proyecto invita a personas de todo el mundo a enviar declaraciones (en inglés o español) expresando su solidaridad con las vías fluviales y compartiendo la voz de los ecosistemas que las sustentan. Estas declaraciones pueden incluir informes de primera mano sobre esfuerzos de defensa y activista hasta poesía y testimonios en video. A través de estos formatos, los guardianes humanos comparten por qué se alzan para proteger la salud y los derechos de las vías fluviales que aman. Las declaraciones pasan entonces a formar parte de un mapa global de cuencas hidrográficas, desprovisto de fronteras entre Estados-nación. Call For Submissions
We invite you to submit a written statement or short video that covers the following questions:
Your name and/or the organization you represent
Where are you located (i.e., territory, bioregion, town, neighborhood)
What rivers are most important to you/your community? Why?
What are you doing to protect the rivers and ecosystems they support? OR What should be done to protect these rivers/waterways?
Why do you stand in solidarity with river protectors around the world?
Written statements should be maximum 500 words and preferably written in English or Spanish. However, if that is not possible, we will do our best to translate from any language. In addition, upload a picture of yourself or a logo of your organization. You are also invited to upload a visual of the waterways you mention in your article, and any visual documentation of the work you and/or your community are doing to protect the river(s) in question.
How to record and submit a Video Declaration:
Film a video from your phone or other recording devise looking straight into the camera.
Remember to introduce yourself (and/or your organization you represent) before you answer the remaining questions.
The video should be maximum 2 minutes long.
Once the video has been recorded, you can upload it directly from your phone or computer by using the submission option below.
The deadline for submissions is February 2, 2022, and the statements will be published in March of 2022.

Les invitamos a enviarnos una declaración escrita o en video que responde a las siguientes preguntas:
Su nombre y/u organización
¿Dónde vive? (su territorio, biorregión, comunidad)
¿Cuáles son los ríos más importantes para ustedes y su comunidad? ¿Por qué?
¿Qué están haciendo para proteger los ríos y los ecosistemas a que dan vida?
¿Qué hace falta hacer para proteger estos ríos y cuencas?
¿Por qué están en solidaridad con guardianes de ríos de todo mundo?
Su declaración puede ser máximo de 500 palabras (uno o dos minutos de video) y escrito/hablado en inglés o español. Si eso no es posible, haremos todo lo necesario para traducir de cualquier idioma. Además, les invitamos a enviarnos una foto de usted o el logo de su organización. También les invitamos a mandar una foto de los ríos que mencionan en su artículo/video, y de todo el trabajo que usted y/o su comunidad están haciendo para proteger a los ríos.
Como grabar y enviarnos la declaración en video:
Mientras graban con su teléfono u camera de video, les sugerimos mirar directamente a la cámara.
Recuérdense de introducirse personalmente (y/o el nombre de la organización que representa) antes de contestar las otras preguntas.
El video puede ser máximo de 2 minutos.
Después que ha grabado el video, puede subirlo directamente de su teléfono u computadora a través del enlace abajo.
La fecha tope para enviarnos todo el material es el 2 de febrero, 2022. Las declaraciones serán publicadas en marzo de 2022.
