Weave News to co-sponsor the 2018 Media Freedom Summit 2.0

Weave News is pleased to announce that it is co-sponsoring the 2018 Media Freedom Summit 2.0, to be held on Oct. 26-27 on the campus of the College of Marin. Organized by Project Censored and also sponsored by the Action Coalition for Media Education, the conference will be "an opportunity for journalists, students, faculty, activists, and community members to identify and address crucial threats to media freedom, to learn about and share effective strategies for advancing media freedom, and to promote critical media literacy education in service of social justice, civic engagement, and positive, meaningful change in local communities and larger society."  

Following on the success of the 2016 Media Freedom Summit, which was organized to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Project Censored, this year's event will feature two days of workshops and discussions as well as a keynote panel conversation and opportunities for networking.

In addition to co-sponsoring the conference, members of the Weave News team will be presenting a panel focusing on their analysis of establishment media coverage of several key stories from 2017.

At last year's Media Freedom Summit, held at Sonoma State University, Weave News founder and current Director of Development John Collins spoke about the organization's Big Questions and Holot: Crossroads of Global Violence projects as part of a larger panel on "People's Videography and Citizen Journalism." He also conducted several Big Questions interviews with young activists from the Bay Area. The resulting videos, including Nadya Tannous' response to the question "Where do you get your news, and why?", may be viewed at the Weave News channel on YouTube.
